Sheriff Tiraspol didn’t have a very good start in the new Champions League season. In a match of the second qualifying round, the ‘yellow blacks’ scored only a 1-1 draw with Sutjeska Montenegro at home, IPN reports.

Moldova’s champion opened the score in the last minute of the first half through Brazilian player Henrique Luvannor. Though Sheriff dominated the game, the opponents managed to tie in the 56th minute as a result of a mistake made by goalkeeper Dmitri Stajila.

As senior coach Vitaliy Rashkevich resigned, Sheriff was guided by Spain’s Juan Ferrando, who is said to become Rashkevich’s substitute after he obtains the necessary documents.

“Unfortunately, one mistake thwarted our plans for this match. But we hope to obtain a favorable result in the return match,” said acting coach of Sheriff Veaceslav Rusnac.

“It is out debut in the Champion League and we thus do not yet know whether this is a good result or not. We are yet to take another step, but we must be very attentive as Sheriff is a powerful rival,” stated Sutjeska Montenegro coach Dragan Radojicic.

The return game will be played in Niksic, Montenegro, on July 23.
