Sheriff lost away to Albania’s champion Kukesi 1-2, but nevertheless qualified for the third round of the UEFA Champions League. This was due to the goal scored away. The team from Tiraspol won 1-0 at home, IPN reports.

The first half ended by 2-0 for Kukesi following the goals scored by Emini (35th minute) and Pejic (45th). Bayala reduced the difference in the 56th minute, but Sheriff remained in numerical inferiority in the 77th minute after Nooijer was sent off. In the 81st minute, the hosts benefitted from a penalty, but Miculic rejected Pejic’s kick.

The Azeri team Qarabag is the next opponent of Moldova’s champion. The matches were scheduled for July 25 and August 1. Sheriff plays the first-leg match away.
