Sheriff lost the first-leg match of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League to Slovan Bratislava away 1-2, IPN reports.

The Tiraspol team was led after the 42nd minute, after Zofcak scored from 11 meters. Sheriff also benefitted from a penalty in the 63rd minute, but the Brazilian halfback Cadu failed to score. However, the Slovaks remained without Lasik, who was eliminated for penalty. The score was tied in the 74th minute through Ricardinho. In the 85th minute, Meszaros profited from the non-synchronization in the defense of Sheriff and scored for 2-1.

“I’m very dissatisfied with the result. We didn’t deserve to lose as we played much better,” Sheriff coach Veaceslav Rusnac told a news conference.

“Sheriff is a powerful team, but we played better tactically. It was harder after the elimination, but we showed character and managed to win,” said the coach of Slovan Frantisek Straka.

The return game between Sheriff and Slovan takes place in Tiraspol on August 6, starting at 8pm.
