One month after being beaten by Zimbru in the final of Moldova’s Cup, Sheriff has the chance to take revenge in a match of Moldova’s Super Cup. The two rivals open the new season in Tiraspol on June 27, starting at 7pm, IPN reports.

Sheriff and Zimbru have met three times in Moldova’s Super Cup and every time Sheriff won. Zimbru never won this trophy.

“In my career, I never played in Moldova’s Super Cup. I want very much Zimbru to win,” said Zimbru halfback Alexandru Dedov.

“It’s hard to play after a pause of three weeks. Furthermore, some of our players sustained injuries. It’s not yet clear if Ion Jardan will play,” said Zimbru coach Oleg Kubarev.

Former Zimbru striker Radu Gansari will play in the first match of Moldova’s Super Cup. This summer, Sheriff also signed halfback Andrei Muresan, who became vice champion of Romania in the last season with Astra, Ducth striker Fredua Benson, and Brazilian fullback Ligger Moreira.

Instead, Zimbru lost Brazilian player Ademar Xavier, who signed for FC Tiraspol. But it signed former internationals Alexandru Pashchenko and Alexandru Grosu.

After the match with Sheriff, Zimbru will meet Shkendija in the first qualifying round of Europa League. The first game will take place in Macedonia on July 1. For its part, Sheriff will play Sutjeska of Montenegro in the second qualifying round of Champions League.
