The dwellers from Costin St and from Alba Iulia St of Ghidighici village of the municipality of Chisinau were connected to the centralized sewerage system following the implementation of a project in the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (Kusanone Program). The project was launched in 2017 and the value of the grant provided by the Government of Japan to the Ghidighici mayor’s office was of US$42,857, IPN reports.

Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Katayama Yoshihiro expressed his conviction that the assistance offered by Japan contributed to improving the life of the inhabitants of Ghidighici. He said he was impressed by the collective work done there. The grant comes from the taxes paid by the people of Japan and he thus asked to consider this aid as a sign of friendship from the Japanese people.

Mayor of Ghidighici Victor Durbală said that this is a successful project, while ex-mayor Serafim Isac noted that this is the first project of the kind for the village and its implementation was an exam. The works to build the sewerage system took place transparently, with reporting online. The street was covered with gravel bought with money that remained from the sewerage system.

Local councilor Larisa Noroc, who lives on Vasile Costin Str, said the wastewater now does not get into wells, but is treated at the wastewater treatment station of Apă-Canal Chisinau. The inhabitants pay only 2 lei per cubic meter of water.

The Republic of Moldova has been a beneficiary of the Kusanone Program since 2008.
