Prime Minister Iurie Leanca instructed a number of institutions to switch to electronic payments by August 25 in a move to eliminate corruption, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government. The given institutions are: the state-run document issuing company “Registru”, the General Police Inspectorate, the Civil Status Office, the State Tax Service, and the state-owned company “Cadastre”. The launch of the Governmental Electronic Payments System Mpay is one of the executive’s priorities for the first 1000 days in office.

The Premier is convinced that the switchover to electronic payments will reduce bureaucracy and corruption as the people will no longer have to queue up at front-offices and will not need to communicate with functionaries. The people will be able to make payments for public services online, with no additional charges.

Iurie Leanca requested all the subdivisions of the executive and the state-run enterprises that provide public services for people and companies for money to register their services in the Governmental Electronic Payments System until this yearend.

Mpay is a joint project of the State Chancellery’s Electronic Government Center, the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Moldova.
