A launch of children’s books emphasizing the role of reading to help children manage their emotions was held in Chisinau.

The event was an occasion to present four translated books recently published by RP Editor: “The Fawn Who Chased the Sun” by Joanna McInerney, translated from English, as well as three other books for young children aged 1- 3 years, “Emotions”, “Body” and “Farm Animals”, translated from French.

The speaker of the event, the psychologist Marcelina Uncu, together with the translator-publisher Rodica Plugaru, addressed the subject of emotional management for children and the importance of making reading a habit from an early age. “Through the books and stories that address the theme of emotions (such as fear of the dark, unexplained fears), the child identifies with different characters, analyzes the projected situations, thus developing their confidence in themselves and in their adaptation capacities”, said Rodica Plugaru.

Psychologist Marcelina Uncu presented the six basic emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise and disgust, emphasizing at the same time the importance of accepting both positive and negative ones. “Emotions are a fundamental element of a child’s development and it is important to let children express them, as long as they don’t harm others or themselves”.

Rodica Plugaru also emphasized the importance of introducing reading adapted to each age, adding that “reading a story to a child that they cannot grasp, we get the impression they don’t like books, when in fact they do not correspond to their age. It is important to offer young children books with interactive elements, so that they discover the book as a toy, become familiar with this object and later on reading becomes a pleasure”.
