Law enforcement officers carried out searches in a criminal case concerning the embezzlement of public funds earmarked for laying out a rural park. According to the National Anticorruption Center, in 2023-2024, officials of the National Technical Surveillance Inspectorate, in cooperation with decision-makers of an economic agent and representatives of the mayor’s office of Brăviceni village in Orhei district, allegedly abused the position to obtain over 6.3 million lei through breach of trust and misleading, IPN reports.

The money was to be allocated from the state budget, through the National Office for Regional and Local Development for setting up a rural park in Brăviceni. In March 2024, a report on the volumes and costs of the works, dated January 30, 2024, was signed and fictitious works that were not carried out by the economic agent were included in this.
