Four men and three women, ages ranging from 32 to 69, died over the past week in Moldova because of complications caused by the flu. None of the victims had received seasonal flu shots. Since October 1, the death toll associated with flu reached 20 cases, the Ministry of Health reported.

Over the past week, 366 cases of seasonal flu, including 78 lab-confirmed ones were reported across the country. In 65 cases the A(H1N1) strain was confirmed and in 13 other cases the A(H3N2) strain.

The MoH says that most deaths could have been avoided had the victims, who belonged to risk groups, requested flu jabs.

The public is encouraged to take all the preventive measures, practice good personal hygiene, and seek professional medical care at the first symptoms without relying on self-medication.
