The amounts of natural gas provided by Gazprom to the Republic of Moldova can be used only by the right side of the Nistru that fully pays for the consumed gas, said energy expert Sergiu Tofilat. According to him, Chisinau could press Moscow into supplying additional amounts of gas to us or the citizens in the Transnistrian region would get frozen in their homes. The responsibility for the situation of the people from the separatist region is borne by the Kremlin, which supports an unconstitutional regime, IPN reports.

Since the start of October, of the 8.06 million cubic meters of gas needed by both of the banks of the Nistru, with this amount being stipulated in the contract, Gazprom has offered Moldova only 5.7 million cubic meters of gas a day or by 30% less. Energy expert Sergiu Tofilat said the situation can become really critical in winter, when gas consumption increases substantially.

“These 5.7 million cubic meters of gas we receive daily are enough for the warm period of October, both for the left side and for the right side. In November this amount will not be sufficient but the situation will be more serious in January-February. During the cold period of the year, we daily need 13 million cubic meters of gas. Vladimir Putin tries to shift responsibility onto our authorities and gives us 5.7 million cubic meters a day but this amount needs to be divided between the right side and the left side. Russia tries to increase all the costs for the current government and to force it make mistakes,” Sergiu Tofilat stated in the talk show “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.

According to the expert, the amounts supplied by Gazprom to Moldova should be used only by the right side of the Nistru, which pays 29.26 lei per cubic meter of gas, while the residents of the Transnistrian region pay 1.28 lei per cubic meter of gas.

“The 5.7 million cubic meters of gas we receive daily are enough to satisfy the needs of the right bank that pays for the consumed gas, while the left bank does not,” said Sergiu Tofilat, noting that what happens on the left side of the Nistru later will be the responsibility of Putin who finances the unconstitutional regime in Tiraspol.

Earlier, President Maia Sandu said that if Gazprom fully halts the supplies of natural gas, the Transnistrian region will be provided with gas purchased from the European market but it will have to pay a gas rate similar to that paid by the citizens from the right bank of the Nistru.
