The process of terminating the agreement under which the Russian Cultural Center in Chisinau operates has already begun and will be completed. This was stated by Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan, who emphasized that international procedures must be followed, but there is no urgency, IPN reports.
"The Ministry of Culture is the party initiating this process. We are working in collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is not something that will happen overnight. Terminating an agreement takes time. There are international procedures that must be respected, which is why there is no urgency and no reaction to an immediate situation," Sergiu Prodan told the press.
The decision to close the Russian Cultural Center comes after repeated violations of Moldova's airspace. Following a massive attack on the Ukrainian port of Reni, several drones crossed Moldovan airspace. One drone crashed in an agricultural field near the village of Ciumai, Taraclia district, while another exploded in a field near Ceadar-Lunga.
Shortly after Chisinau’s announcement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the Russian Cultural Center in Chisinau continues to operate.
The Ministry of Culture was expected to propose to the Government the project to terminate the agreement under which the Russian Cultural Center operates, after which the document would need approval from Parliament.
