The organizers of the May 3 protest didn’t accept the invitation of Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici to meet in the Government Building because they didn’t want to spoil their image, executive director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO) Sergiu Ostaf said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

“The organizers of this protest built an anti-system image and, if they had gone to the Government, they would have damaged this image. Because of it, they invited the Premier to meet in the square of the National Library. The organizers’ aim was to bring people together,” stated the CReDO director.

He considers that the leaders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” tried thus to place Premier Gaburic on an inferior position. “By this gesture, they wanted to show that they are stronger, superior. If they had had concrete demands, they should have presented them. They could have imposed the condition that the meeting should be attended by journalists. I do not understand their gesture,” he stated.

Sergiu Ostaf thinks one of the reasons for which the organizers of the protest failed to meet with the Premier is the fact that they didn’t formulate clear demands. “Three types of subjects were noticed in last Sunday’s protest: dissatisfaction with the living conditions, the stealing of the US$1 billion and problems related to the national identity. The demands were clear only in the case of the stealing. On the other matters, the protesters didn’t have a clear position,” he said.

The CReDO director suggested formulating clear messages. Otherwise, this movement will shrink. Ostaf considers particular parties could benefit from these protests. “Through the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, they aim to strengthen the protesting voters and the supporters of the center-right. It’s not excluded that this movement will be taken over by certain political forces,” he stated.
