If President Maia Sandu signs the decree to dismiss Alexandr Stoianoglo from the post of prosecutor general, a new contest to fill the post will be held, said Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco. He noted that by the end of this year the Prosecutor General’s Office needs to a have a new chief. The members of the Supreme Security Council (SCP) assessed the work done by Stoianoglo as unsatisfactory because this didn’t realize the essence of his duties, IPN reports.

Sergiu Litvinenco said that as a result of the report presented by the commission for assessing the performance of the prosecutor general, it was ascertained that Stoianoglo had a close relationship with businessman Veaceslav Platon, whom he favored. Moreover, according to the report, Stoianoglo asked for legal advice from Platon over the preparation of a lawsuit in the name of a state institution.

“After analyzing the report and questioning members of the assessment commission and the suspended prosecutor general, the SCP decided that this fulfilled his duties in an unsatisfactory way given that the report revealed outrageous things. The analysis showed that Alexandr Stoianoglo didn’t understand the essence of his duties. In a state with the rule of law, it is unacceptable for the prosecutor general to ask for legal advice from a person investigate by the Prosecutor’s Office. Veaceslav Platon was defended as if Stoianoglo was Platon’s lawyer. The approach and the way in which Alexandr Stoianoglo communicated with Plahotniuc was a correct one, but this didn’t adopt the same approach with regard to Platon,” Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

In accordance with the law, the prosecutor general is dismissed from post by the President of the Republic of Moldova at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

“If the President signs the dismissal decree, the post will fall vacant and there will be all the conditions for initiating a contest to fill the post of prosecutor general. This year we must have a new prosecutor general. The SCP’s decision was challenged even if the argued decision hasn’t been yet issued. Alexandr Stoianoglo has the right to challenge,” stated the minister.

The suspended prosecutor general considers the assessment commission’s report is subjective and biased and is not based on legal reasons or facts. Alexandr Stoianoglo challenged in court the report after his work was described as “unsatisfactory” in terms of efficiency, integrity, internal and external communication and management of human resources.
