The Political Party "Partidul Oamenilor Muncii" candidate, Serghei Toma, urged the citizens to vote for good management, not for politics, in the Chișinău mayoral elections set for October 20. According to him, some are trying to engage in politics. However, the City Hall does not need politicians, it needs managers. The statements were made at the "Only one out of many: who and why?" public debates, organized by the IPN Press Agency.
Serghei Toma prioritizes the health of the citizens in his electoral platform. Additionally, Toma aims to stop all chaotic repair works, including road repair works. According to him, the city needs a plan with a vision towards the future, which also aims to preserve the historical center.
The mayoral candidate said that entrepreneurship is underdeveloped, because the city does not provide the necessary conditions for businesspersons to invest and run a business in Chișinău.
Serghei Toma added that the issues relating to traffic jams and the lack of bicycle and public transport lanes must be addressed. He said that public transport moves slowly due to traffic congestion, especially in the center of Chișinău. In his opinion, Chișinău should become a city similar to those in Europe, with infrastructure for ecological transport, rain systems, sidewalks, roads and green spaces. Additionally, the candidate is convinced that over the course of the next ten years, the city must switch from the use of carbon fuels to electricity in order to stop polluting the environment.
In this regard, Serghei Toma thinks that good practices from abroad must be implemented at home.
The candidate urged the residents of Chișinău to elect on October 20 a mayor and a council who will lead them over the course of the next four years without "fooling them, as they have done so far". "Do not vote for those who have misappropriated lands and green spaces from courtyards or between building blocks. These embezzlement cases are actually criminal", said Serghei Toma.
He advised citizens not to cast their votes for politicians, but for people with a spine who will develop health, environmental and other projects. "Please don't vote based on the billboards that you see across town, because they bring you nothing but poverty. Those who have spent so much on the billboards will want a return on investment out of City Hall. Vote for Toma Serghei, number 17 on the ballot list", concluded the candidate.
The next round of debates is scheduled for October 15 and 16.
The first round of the "Only one out of many: who and why?" electoral debate, which involves the participation of mayoral hopefuls for Chișinău municipality, is the 118th edition of the "Development of political culture in public debates" cycle, supported by the German Foundation Hanns Seidel.
