Serghei Marghiev reaches European Athletics Championships final

Moldovan athlete Serghei Marghiev reached the hammer throwing final of the European Athletics Championships in Zurich. He qualified with the third best result – 76.25 meters, IPN reports.

Twelve athletes will compete in the final on August 16. The best results of the qualifications was that of Poland's Pawel Fajdek – 77.45 meters.

Moldova has already been represented by Alexei Cravcenco in 400 meters hurdles and Vladimir Letnicov in triple jump, but both failed to qualify for the final.

Moldova's best athlete in recent years represented Russia at the Championships in Switzerland. He came 5th in the 3000 meters steeplechase competition. The European Championships gathered 1500 athletes from 50 countries and will end on August 17.
