Moldovan weightlifter Serghei Cechir has won a bronze medal at the European Weightlifting Championship held in Tel-Aviv. He competed in the 69 kg class, being outstripped by Russia’s Oleg Chen and Armenia’s Vanik Avetisyan, IPN reports.
In snatch, Cechir lifted 143 kg, while in clean and jerk - 172 kg. Consequently, he scored a result of 315 kg, as Vanik Avetisyan. Being by only 40 grams lighter than Cechir, the Armenian won silver, while Cechir won thus bronze.
In the 56 kg class, Oleg Sirghi had a disappointing performance on the first day of the competition. The European champion of 2013 ranked only fourth. In the 62 kg class, Ion Terna finished fifth.
At the European Weightlifting Championship in Israel, Moldova is represented by nine athletes – seven men and two women.
