The science for peace and development is closely connected with research in security and defense. “Without security, without peace, development in all the areas cannot exist and there cannot be hope and confidence in tomorrow. Security and peace are the basis of development. If peace and security are not ensured, the investors do not have confidence and, respectively, there is no development,” division general Ion Coropcean, director of the Ministry of Defense’s Agency for Military Memory and Science, has told IPN. The Museum has a division that focuses on peace and security, called the Strategic Defense and Security Studies Section.

Ion Coropcean made the statement in connection with World Science Day for Peace and Development that was marked recently, in accordance with the UNESCO General Conference’s decision of November 2, 2001 and with the Moldovan Government’s relevant decision of November 22, 2010.

General Ion Coropcean noted the military institutions are preoccupied with science for peace and development as this way they contribute to avoiding conflicts and wars. “The NATO Science for Peace and Security Program is one of the most important programs of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Alliance essentially contributes to ensuring peace and development in the member and partner states,” said Ion Coropcean.

In her speech in a roundtable meeting titled “Practical Cooperation with NATO: benefits and impact for resilience of security sector”, which was recently staged by the Information and Documentation Center on NATO in Moldova, Marin Butuc, doctor, lecturer, researcher, director of the Doctoral School “Military and Security Sciences” of “Alexandru cel Bun” Military Academy, said the scientific research in security studies is subject to modernization based on the experience of developed states, the NATO member states being benchmarks in this regard. Science in security studies aims to ensure peace by peaceful ways and by development that are closely related to the establishment of a climate of confidence and cooperation in all the areas.
