Second lot of rabies vaccine delivered to Moldova

The second consignment of 5,000 rabies vaccine doses made in India was shipped to Moldova. The doses were purchases with money from the prophylaxis fund of the National Health Insurance Company, which allocated 469,000 lei for the purpose. The lot was taken to the national vaccine storehouse of the National Public Health Agency, IPN reports.

According to the National Health Insurance Company, the rabies vaccine is used before and after exposure to rabies virus as primary immunization.

Pre-exposure vaccination or prophylaxis is recommended to persons with a high risk of infection with this virus. Post-exposure vaccination is indicated after the person is bitten by an animal that can carry rabies and when particular persons are suspected of having been exposed to rabies.

The first batch of 7,000 rabies vaccine doses was bought in May 2022 and cost 656,600 lei. They money was also allocated from the prophylaxis fund.
