The second huge wave on the Nistru is expected today, July 29, till 22.00. Ukrainian authorities informed their Moldovan counterparts they had opened all the evacuation channels at the Novodnestrovsk dam. According to the Civil Protection and Emergency Service, the situation remains alarming for people living in tens of villages along the Nistru for the coming 40-60 hours. At the same time, even bigger is the flood hazard along the Prut river. Up to 9.00, 1,496 people from 600 houses were evacuated in Braniste, Avrameni, Redeni villages in Rascani district. All the villagers from Clococenii-Noi, Tomestii-Vechi, Serghieni, Bisericani from Glodeni district have been evacuated. Three trucks and 48 rescuers are working in those villages to evacuate material belongings. 51 people from 18 houses were evacuated from Cuhnesti village, the same district, as 3 people refuse to abandon their properties. Although the rescuers have to evacuate the people by force, some of them return to the flooded localities. The Prut flooded the fishery from Badragii-Vechi, Edinet, as in the village of Lopatnic, 25 ha of sunflower and 16 ha of potatoes were flooded. The dams at Dnestrovsk, Dubasari and Costesti work at capacities 6-7 times more than usual. The Nistru's water level has reached alarming heights, as two strong freshets are yet expected. The rescuers ask people to show more cooperation when asked to leave their dwellings.
