The Social Democracy Party (SDP) puts the blame for the lack of concrete actions with a view to implementing European standards in Moldova on the communist government. Statements in this respect were made on Monday December 4 by Dumitru Braghis, the party’s leader. According to Braghis, the major problems that Moldova confronts generated by the communist government’s lack of desire to respect the democratic values, to develop a true market economy etc., are serious impediments to Moldova’s promotion towards European integration. “The mendacious statements” of the communists are not taken into consideration by European countries anymore, he added. SDP leader mentioned that lately more international organizations published reports regarding Moldova, which find serious flaws. A recent report of the European Commission shows that Moldova is not nominated even among the potential candidates for accession to the EU, he mentioned. According to the cited source, neither the EGPRSP objectives were achieved, a fact recognized also by the government that extended the Strategy’s deadline for one more year. Till 2001, Moldova was ranging among the poorest states of Europe, while after a 5-year communist government it became the poorest one on this continent, Braghgis stated. With reference to the Moldovan-Russian relations, SDP leader welcomed the partial unblocking of the dialogue, but said that the citizens must acknowledge the real costs of it. Braghis announced he will make an interpellation asking the Moldovan President to attend a special sitting of the Parliament in order to present official information on the content of the talks held with the Russian Federation. SDP called on all the political democratic forces to make use of the relations with the foreign partners and to persuade the European Union that Moldovan people must not be sanctioned for the wrong policies promoted by the Communist Party.
