The Superior Council of Prosecutors proposed that President Maia Sandu should fire Alexandr Stoianoglo from the post of prosecutor general from which he was suspended. The Council took such a decision on May 23 after familiarizing itself with the report of the expert commission that assessed Stoianoglo’s performance as “unsatisfactory”, IPN reports.

The examination of the assessment report started last week and continued in Monday’s meeting that was attended by Alexandr Stoianoglo himself. He presented his position, saying that he worked in accordance with the law.

As a result of debates and deliberations, the Council’s head Angela Motuzoc made public the decision, saying that there were separate opinions too, but didn’t specify who had such opinions. “The work done by Mister Alexandr Stoianoglo while holding the post of prosecutor general was assessed as “unsatisfactory”. It is proposed that the President of the Republic of Moldova should dismiss Mister Alexandr Stoianoglo from the post of prosecutor general,” stated Angela Motuzoc. The decision can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 30 days.

The procedure for assessing the performance was initiated following a notification from President Maia Sandu.

After the assessment report was presented, Alexandr Stoianoglo said the senior administration needed seven months to get rid of the “undesirable prosecutor general”. According to him, the conclusions of the assessment commission were based on subjective and biased assessments, not on legal reasons or facts.
