The very high temperatures have led to an increased demand for electricity on the domestic market. This phenomenon was especially noticeable during peak hours, from 20.00 to 21.00, and at night, when air conditioners are turned on to cool rooms in public spaces, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă stated in a news conference.

He urged the population to consume electricity rationally. For example, domestic appliances, such as the washing machines, should not be used excessively or should be used at more appropriate time intervals, at noon and not in the evening, when consumption is higher.

Daniel Vodă said that the high energy consumption at peak hours during the heat wave will not lead to an increase in charges. The prices are regulated by the National Agency for Energy Regulation and is announced in the way stipulated by the law.

The authorities also call on the population to consume water resources reasonably. In the coming days, air temperatures were projected to oscillate between +36° and +39°C.  In the second part of the week, the heat wave will gradually recede. The highs will decrease to +30°...+35°C.
