The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) dismissed the appeal filed by the Pro Moldova Party over the non-registration of Andrian Candu as a candidate for President of Moldova, IPN reports. “The justice system in the Republic of Moldova today reaffirmed its loyalty to the Dodon regime,” the party stated in a press release by which it announced the SCJ’s decision.
The party condemns that flagrant manner in which Pro Moldova was left outside the electoral exercise set for November 1. “We continue to believe that it was a desperate act deriving from the government’s fear of the power of Pro Moldova. We are waiting for the argued decision and will then launch the procedure for defending ourselves at the European Court of Human Rights. We are firmly convinced that the CEC’s decision was abusive and illogical, without any legal basis,” says the press release that is quoted by IPN.
A number of 25,000 citizens signed in favor of Pro Moldova’s candidate Andrian Candu. The CEC refused to register Candu as a candidate for President for the reason that the geographical proportionality principle wasn’t respected and Candu was short of 218 signatures from six districts.
