The merit scholarships for students will be increased twofold, along with the monthly payments for young people studying at military institutions. The monthly scholarships for students of colleges, vocational schools and centers of excellence and also for master and doctoral students will be raised by 5.5%. This is provided in a draft law that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said the augmentation of students’ scholarships is part of the policy to strengthen the education system of all levels and to ensure the attractiveness and competitiveness of the national higher and technical vocational education institutions at national and international levels.
Under the new provisions, from January 1 particular categories of scholarships will be twice as high. Thus, the Republic Scholarship will amount to 4,060 lei, up from 2,040 previously. The Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Moldova will be 2,860 lei for students of technical vocational education institutions and 3,690 lei for university students, the Government Scholarship – 3,380 lei, while the Gaudeamus Scholarship – 2,460 lei. Also, the monthly payments for students of military and public order education institutions were raised twofold to 400 and 500 lei, respectively.
The scholarship for students in technical vocational education will vary between 745 and 970 lei, while the social scholarship for them will be 570 lei.
For undergraduate students, the scholarship will be between 970 and 1,235 lei, while master students will receive a scholarship of 1,325 lei. The social scholarship for students from cycles I and II of education will be 655 lei per month. For doctoral students, the Government Excellence Scholarship will be 3,165 lei, while the scholarship for scientific fields – 2,640 lei.
The students will receive a supplement equal to the difference between the scholarship set according to the new amendments to the decision on the augmentation of scholarships and the scholarship paid for the period between January 1, 2024 and the date of entry into force of the new provisions.
