“The schedule for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU is not kept to and this is serious,” historian and publicist Gheorghe Cojocaru said in an interview for Radio Free Europe. He noted it is yet encouraging that the Premier aims to mobilize the Government and the ministers so as to carry out the overdue measures in the shortest time possible given that this fundamental act for Moldova’s European course was only about 60% implemented, IPN reports.

Gheorghe Cojocaru said the commitment to return to the schedule within 30 days becomes a matter of honor for Pavel Filip and the Government he heads. The encouragement and support shown by a number of European officials for the new Cabinet are clear signals that the development partners seriously treat the approached adopted by the new executive.

“The prompt support from the government of Romania, the encouraging reaction of the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola to the Cabinet’s commitment to accelerate the implementations of the European agenda, the support expressed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the European course followed by the current government and the announcement about the visit by an IMF mission to Chisinau at end-February are clear signals that the development partners treat the path chosen by the new executive in a serious way,” stated Gheorghe Cojocaru.

He considers that the current Premier’s words unaccompanied by deeds will be immediately penalized by the development partners, by the people who take to the streets and by the political opposition. According to him, the Filip Government will have the Sword of Damocles above its head and will not have the right to mistake.
