The Russian troops should be pulled out of Moldova no matter when and whether a solution of peace between the two sides of the Nistru River is found, analyst Corneliu Ciurea was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel.

According to him, the UN resolution on the withdrawal of the Russian troops will not have a direct impact on the Transnistrian settlement process, but by this resolution Moldova managed to annul the provision concerning the synchronization of the settlement process with the pullout of troops. The resolution of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is also recommendatory in character and is less important than the statement that will be made by the OSCE at yearend, but is more favorable to Moldova and creates preconditions for the final yearend statement to be in the country’s favor. The Russians didn’t react very harshly to this statement.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said the legal mechanism for implementing such resolutions is rather complex. “It is evident that the Russian troops are to be withdrawn from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. It seems that all the political forces understand this. The second question is if a condition should be imposed or something should be solved at political and legal levels so that there is peace after the Russian troops leave,” he stated.

In June, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Moldova’s draft resolution on the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. On July 10, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly reaffirmed the necessity of completely withdrawing the foreign armed forces from Moldova’s territory and of transforming the current peacekeeping mission into a civilly mandated international one.
