The meeting of those two presidents, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Voronin scheduled for Friday, June 22, will tackle several issues that have lately occurred and deepened. After several years of misunderstandings, “Russia and Moldova try to burry the hatchet, with a bottle of Moldovan wine on the table”, Rossiskaia Gazeta writes. According to the cited source, the agenda of the meeting includes issues related to the development of bilateral relations, settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, resumption of the Moldovan wine exports to the Russian market. This time, the newspaper writes, Voronin is ready to accept several provisions of the “Kozak Plan”, becoming more loyal after the “economic battle” applied by the Kremlin. “Voronin has understood that the anti-Russian approach is not the best method to succeed in negotiations, including in what concerns the Russian troops on the territory of Transnistria and, it seems, Chisinau is ready to accept several older proposal, as well as new ones, formulated by Russia on the regulation of the Transnistrian conflict. At the same time, there might be discussed a potential meeting between Voronin and the Transnistrian leader, Smirnov, which will be attended by Putin”, the newspaper writes. Previously, another Kremlin-friendly newspaper, “Kommersant” wrote that on June 22 the presidents of both countries will reach an agreement in several fields and that Voronin has ignored the GUAM summit in Baku so as to not get on Putin’s nerves, “At the previous forums, the leaders of those four GUAM member states have harshly criticised the attitude of Moscow, so that this time, when not only the future of Moldova is at stake, but also the political perspectives of Voronin, the president of Moldova decided to stay away from the enemies of Moscow, “Kommersant” emphasised.
