Russia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov, who was summoned on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the press that the Moldovan authorities’ actions are very unfriendly and do not contribute to the development of the bilateral relations. According to him, it is strange that the embassy employee was declared persona non grata before the completion of the investigations and the accumulation of evidence, IPN reports.

“There are very few diplomats left in our embassy. The investigation continues. It is not over and it is strange that a diplomat is declared persona non grata in the absence of accumulated evidence,” Oleg Vasnetsov said when leaving the MFA.

Asked about a possible response from the Russian authorities, the ambassador said that the Russian Federation always comes up with an appropriate response. “Certainly, a response will follow. We will see what decision the administration will take. But, I repeat, these actions do not contribute to ensuring a spirit of harmony and cooperation to which we always urge the leadership of the Republic of Moldova to resort,” stated the Russian diplomat.

Two officials of the Parliament and the Border Police were detained and are investigated for treason and plotting against the Republic of Moldova in their communication with an employee of the Embassy of Russia in Chisinau. The head of the Parliament’s Legal Department Ion Creangă is reportedly involved.
