A Moldovan who fought on Russia’s side against Ukraine will be expelled from Russia, IPN reports, with reference to CurrentTime.

The sentence against Moldovan citizen Gennady Fedko was given by a court in the Russian region of Rostov.

The man was detained on September 12 at a checkpoint located between the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic and Rostov region, where he went to renegotiate his employment contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to Russian media, the expulsion was decided the next day, September 13. The Moldovan was found guilty of non-compliance with the Code of Administrative Contraventions, namely “evasion from expulsion from the Russian Federation”, an aspect provided for in Part III of Article 20.25.

In the Republic of Moldova, mercenaries are punished with imprisonment of five to ten years. In addition, they can be deprived of Moldovan citizenship. In the autumn of 2022, more than half a year after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, President Maia Sandu spoke about the possibility of depriving residents of our country with Russian passports, who fight in Ukraine on the side of the Russian army, of citizenship. The punishment can be toughened in the case of Moldovan citizens who do not have Russian citizenship and fight on Russia’s side.

IPN recently reported that dozens of migrants were summoned to Moscow as a result of raids carried out by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Russian investigators started to trace cases of illegal migration and to determine how so-called “former migrants” comply with the law, focusing on citizens who have obtained Russian citizenship in recent times.
