Russia calls on Moldova, Transnistria to reject 'unilateral solutions'

Russian Foreign Minister Serghi Lavrov had a meeting with Igor Smirnov in Moscow on February 12, whom the Ministry's calls on its official web page as 'the Transnistrian president', Info-Prim Neo reports. “A way out from the present deadlock in the negotiations in which Chisinau and Tiraspol participate should be sought for on the basis of the recognition of the equity of the parties in agreeing on a viable model of settlement and of steady cooepration on the Nistru's banks,” reads the communique. „Coming to a consensus on giving up unilateral solutions and any form of pressure and resolving all disputed issues exclusively through peaceful political means should contribute to the restoration of trust in the region and the implementation of practical steps to meet each other halfway,” states the Foreign Ministry from Moscow. According to the press release, the Transnistria side made know its appreciations regarding the last contacts with the Moldovan leadership and regarding the first results of the experts groups of the two parties in preparing confidence-building measures in the social-economic sector. The two interlocutors discussed about the cooperation between Russia and the Transnistrian area and about continuing to provide humanitarian assistance.
