The signing and ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU do not imply the separation from the Eastern area. A rupture in relations between Moldova and Russia is impossible, while those who assert such things are political suicides, former Deputy Foreign Minister Valeriu Ostalep said in a program on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

Valeriu Ostalep said the Moldovan authorities should focus not on the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, but on the problems faced by the people. They must maintain direct contact with the people and know how the people live. Any opinion that is different from that of the power is now considered act of separatism, but nobody listens to the opinion of this category of people. It’s absurd to think that by signing the Association Agreement with the EU, Moldova will get rid of problems. The people do not need explanations, but palpable results.

According to the former deputy minister, the country’s population must know that the Association Agreement is only a legal framework of the relations between Moldova and the EU. The other issues concerning economic development and the use of European funds depend on the Moldovan authorities. However, the closer Moldova comes to the EU, the larger will be the quantity of Moldovan products exported to Russia as Moldova does not have goods to surprise the European market.

Victor Juc, vice director of the Institute of Legal and Political Researches of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said it’s a mistake to believe that the EU is the solution to all the problems existing in Moldova. The people have such an opinion because the government didn’t discuss the provisions of this accord with the people. The signing of the Association Agreement with the EU does not envision separation from the Eastern area and it’s rather improbable that the relations with Russia will be fully destroyed.
