The largest producer and main supplier of natural gas in Romania, ROMGAZ, opened a branch in the Republic of Moldova. The ROMGAZ branch in Chisinau on May 16 was registered with the Public Services Agency of the Republic of Moldova, being added to the State Register of Legal Entities, IPN reports.

“The registration of the ROMGAZ Branch in Chisinau is part of the actions that the company carries out in order to expand the gas supply activity at regional level, an objective stipulated in the company’s strategy for 2021-2030. ROMGAZ wants to contribute to ensuring the security of gas supply in the Republic of Moldova and the step taken today creates the preconditions for achieving this desideratum,” said ROMGAZ Director General Razvan Popescu.

ROMGAZ Deputy CEO Aristotel Jude stated that in the near future, the company will take the necessary steps to obtain the license for the supply of natural gas on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. “We are convinced that ROMGAZ’s presence in the Republic of Moldova and the trading of natural gas on the centralized market of the Republic of Moldova will efficiently contribute to the liberalization of the natural gas market in this country and to the creation of the necessary preconditions for setting a real price for the benefit of consumers,” noted Aristotel Jude.

ROMGAZ was authorized to trade on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange. Its main shareholder is the Romanian state, with a 70% stake. The company has extensive experience in the field of natural gas exploration and production. Its history started more than 100 years ago, in 1909.
