The Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu said that it is necessary to diversify the energy sources and means of production. Now more than ever, pragmatism and solidarity are needed. “As we well know, winter is coming, the war in Ukraine is ongoing and immediate action is needed to support the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and all the vulnerable countries in the region,” Marcel Ciolacu said at the Business Forum organized on the occasion of the meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC), IPN reports.
“That’s why we are improving the interconnection capacities with all the surrounding countries. The Trans-Balkan Corridor and the Vertical Corridor, on which we are working with partners from Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece, are vital gas projects for the region. Together with Turkey and Azerbaijan, we have opened up a huge new potential for cooperation in both gas and energy. And through the Green Corridor we have co-opted new states such as Georgia and Hungary to this unprecedented regional effort,” the Romanian Prime Minister said in his speech. According to him, billions of euros are invested in new capacities to obtain energy from renewable sources and the aim is to double Romania’s nuclear capacity.
“We are starting the Neptun Deep project, a crucial gas exploration project in the Black Sea, which will double Romania’s gas production capacity and turn the country into the largest producer in the European Union starting with 2027. At the same time, we are building a high-voltage direct current transmission system that transports energy from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania to Hungary and the rest of Europe,” the Romanian official also said.
Marcel Ciolacu noted that the national energy systems influence each other, communicate and depend on each other. And the climate does not take borders into account. The challenges in these areas are global and global solutions should be therefore identified.
