Romanian nationality issue would not be resolved soon

“We must be honest and admit that it would be impossible to issue all the applicants with Romanian nationality in a short period of time,” Romanian MEP Cristian Silviu Busoi told a news conference focusing on Moldova’s prospects for European integration held in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I know that the Moldovan citizens would be encouraged to look towards Romania and the European Union if they were issued with Romanian nationality. Yet, even if Calin Popescu Tariceanu is no more Prime Minister and his party enters the Opposition, you will see that the things would not change overnight because there are certain constraints imposed by our status of EU member state that obliges us to be prudent in this respect,” Busoi said. “The Romanian citizenship means European citizenship. That’s why, representatives of the EU member states are interested that Romania provides Romanian nationality very carefully,” Cristian Silviu Busoi said. The Romanian MEP stressed that the procedure for granting Romanian nationality is however the exclusive privilege of the Romanian State. He said that the Romanian law on nationality could be modified in the near future so that the procedure for regaining Romanian nationality is simplified.
