Romanian military expert Claudiu Degeratu has less optimistic forecasts about the war in Ukraine. He said this will be long-lasting fighting that can last for several months to two years. The armament supplies of Ukraine are enough to resist for several months if the war’s intensity is maximum and for several years if it is a war of attrition. For their part, Moldovan experts said Ukraine’s decision to file an appropriation to join the EU is a unique opportunity for the neighboring country, IPN reports.

Yesterday, as a result of a special meeting of the European Parliament centering on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the MEPs asked to offer the EU accession status to Ukraine and to continue the efforts to integrate Ukraine into the common market of the EU, in accordance with the provisions of the Association Agreement. The decision was taken after two days ago President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted Ukraine’s application for EU membership.

“President Zelensky’s approach to obtain this special status is justified. Symbolically speaking, it would be an encouragement for the Ukrainians who fight not only for them, but also for the whole Europe. The expansionist plants target not only Donetsk and Luhansk. They are aimed at a much broader space that does not stop at the borders of the former USSR. If there is a window of opportunity for Ukraine, it should be taken advantage of now. There is no possibility for Ukraine to follow another direction, as Russian ideologists expected. Russia’s initial plan was that Ukraine would capitulate in two days, but this is far from the reality,” expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” Igor Munteanu stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Military experts say Russia turned more aggressive the last few days so as to gain more ground in the talks with the Ukrainian side. They forecast the war can last for several months at least.

“Russia wants to blackmail the Ukrainian government and the international community with actions aimed against civilians who now resist with arms in their hands in these large urban centers. They bank on the fact that this type of blackmail will advantage Russia at the next stages of negotiation. There are voices saying that it is a conflict that would last for one-two years or at least several months if it is of high intensity. Ukraine managed to store armament and munitions that will help it resist during at least half a year. I do not think it can cope longer,” said military expert from Romania Claudiu Degeratu.

Among Russia’s conditions for stopping the so-called “military operation “ are the recognition of its sovereignty over Crimea, demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine and a neutrality status for this country.
