Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu is making her first official visit to Moldova. In Chisinau, the official will be hosted by Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/ Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Ministers Nicu Popescu and Luminița Odobescu will hold a press conference on Tuesday, at 11.00. The press conference can be watched online and on the Facebook account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Minister Odobescu will have meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, and Speaker Igor Grosu. Also, the agenda of the visit includes bilateral political consultations with Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu.
“The visit to the Republic of Moldova is the first foreign trip of Minister Luminița Odobescu after taking office on June 15, 2023. This has a particular relevance both for addressing the priority topics on the bilateral and European integration agenda, as well as for the coordination of efforts and projects for the next period. The move takes place in a period marked by intense efforts by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova for the advancement of democratic reforms and for the effective implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission formulated in June 2022, in the context of granting the state a candidate for EU accession”, reads a statement reads issued by the Romanian ministry.
It added that Minister Odobescu will reconfirm Romania’s firm and ample support in the concrete advancement of the European path, in successfully overcoming the challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the expansion of bilateral economic and sectoral cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Romanian press reported that Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will arrive in Chisinau on Wednesday. Government officials in Chisinau have not yet confirmed the Romanian official’s visit.
