The Romanian Film Days started in Chisinau with the screening of the newest film by Romanian director Cristian Mungiu - the drama “R.M.N.”. “Each time I present it, I try to realize to what extent we perceive the same things from the reality around us and to what extent we can understand ourselves better by watching films,” Cristian Mungiu stated in the Opening Gala. According to the director, the cinema can help us to better understand ourselves and plays the role of a mirror in which we look at oursleves, IPN reports.
Presented for the first time at this year’s edition of the Canes Film Festival, “R.M.N.” tells the story of the profound springs of the human behavior before the realities. The Romanian Film Days also include two long films by Cristian Mungiu –“4 months 3 weeks and 2 days” on September 22, at 6pm, and “The West” on September 23, at 4pm. Cristian Mungiu said that each film of those that will be presented at the festival has a side that is very friendly towards spectators. A film should not be long and boring and should convey a message for the spectators to watch it with interest till the end.
Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said that Cristian Mungiu’s films and literary works are highly valued in Moldova. “I’m sure that this festival will have a continuation and the Ministry of Culture will eagerly support each edition of the festival,” noted the official.
Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu said the festival is supported by spectators, lovers of good films and Romanian films. The Romanian Film Days in Chisinau are another proof of the fact that the Government in Bucharest and the Government in Chisinau as well realized that money should be invested in culture as the investment in culture is an investment in the future.
Adrian Dupu, secretary of state of the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova of the Romanian Government, noted that the staging of the Romanian Film Days in Chisinau during nine years wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of perseverance, work and involvement. Awarded films will be shown as part of the festival. This is an extraordinary occasion for not only watching films, but also for learning what is there behind these screenings.
This year the Romanian Film Days will also be held in another seven towns of Moldova, namely: Hânceşti (Sept. 21), Nisporeni (Sept. 22), Călăraşi (Sept.23), Orhei (Sept. 24), Soroca (Sept. 28), Bălţi (Sept. 30 – Oct. 1) and Cahul (Oct 7-8).
