The Romanian electricity market operator (OPCOM) plans to open a branch in the Republic of Moldova, which would ensure trading in electricity. The issue was discussed by Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov during his visit to Bucharest, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Energy.
Energocom last autumn opened a subdivision in Rumania and this enabled to make power purchases when there was a shortage of electricity on the domestic market. The delegation of the Moldovan Ministry of Energy visited Transgaz and Transelectrica and had meetings with the administration of two companies.
The meeting with the managers of the Romanian gas operator centered on the natural gas supply routes used by the countries of the region and the separation of Moldova’s gas transmission system, while the meeting with the directors of the electricity operator focused on the acceleration of projects to develop and strengthen the electricity transmission infrastructure, which would ensure larger transboundary exchange capacities between Romania and Moldova.
Minister Victor Parlicov also had a dialogue with the managers of the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority with whom he agreed to multiply the number of expert meetings so as to borrow good practices for integrating Moldova into the European energy system.
