Voting by post, voting at “standard” polling stations, and voting at “newly-registered” polling stations will be the three options offered to Romanians abroad, including Romanian citizens in Moldova, for voting in the November 10 presidential elections.

For postal voting, voters should register at www.votstrainatate.ro by September 11, by sending a copy of a Romanian identification document and the copy of a document confirming the voter’s residence abroad (such as an ID card or residence permit). After registering, the voters will receive a confirmation link valid only 24 hours, and then send the envelope containing the ballot no later than three days before election day.

The Romanian citizens who wish to vote at one of the polling stations opened abroad will be able to do so from November 8 (12:00 pm - 9:00 pm) to November 10 (7:00 am to 9:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday).

“If by 9:00 pm, there are still people in line to cast votes, they will be allowed to do that by 11:59 pm,” promised Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță.

The “newly-registered” polling station option means that people in a certain area where the Romanian authorities do not plan to open a standard station will be able to request one if they are able to collect at least 100 online signatures from eligible voters on www.votstrainatate.ro.

The Romanian authorities ask voters to make sure they have a valid identity document on election day.
