With the support of Municipal Population’s Social Protection Fund, local authorities also offered other 500 lei for invalid veterans, 400 lei for veterans and 300 lei for veterans’ widows.
The mayoralty organized separate meetings with veterans of Romanian Army and those of Soviet Army „in order to avoid certain incidents between them”, the interim mayor of the capital, Vasile Ursu, stated, who invited all of them to take part in opening of the Compound „Eternity”, held on 9 May.
The tradition to invite at the mayoralty of Chisinau the veterans of Romanian Army was started by the ex-mayor Serafim Urecheanu. The veterans thanked the local authorities that the mayoralty has been the single institution which recognize and protect them, due to this they avoided isolation.
There are about 2,300 veterans, including 200 of Romanian Army, in Chisinau municipality.
