The Romanian Academy of Sciences and the Moldovan Academy of Sciences represent two Romanian states in the main international scientific forums; combining the efforts of the two academies with the aim of promoting a positive image of Romanian science and culture in the world is a call of time, stated Ion Tighineanu, president of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, during a conference titled “Consolidation of the Romanian scientific space in the European context”.
“Furthermore, it is very important that in the process of European integration we do not lose our identity, promote our authentic values, protect and preserve our cultural heritage for future generations, make the Romanian culture and traditions known on a trans-national scale”, said Ion Tighineanu. The role of science academies in the modern world, assailed by major challenges, is becoming more and more pronounced.
Ioan Dumitrache, general secretary of the Romanian Academy, believes that the current challenges, such as climate change, diminishing natural resources, political and geopolitical crises, require changes in mentality, changes in the education system, the organization of scientific research. In these realities, collaboration between various research entities is important. Scientific research should be increasingly involved in solving society’s problems.
The two academies, of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, signed a collaboration protocol with multiple joint actions to be carried out. One of them is the creation of scientific research partnerships, but also the launch of a scientific research awards program. Ioan Dumitrache believes that it is important to have such collaborations and hopes that together it will be possible to contribute to the development of this natural framework of collaboration between research entities, researchers, creating high-performing centers of excellence compatible with the existing centers at European level.
The “Consolidation of the Romanian scientific space in the European context” conference was organized in the context of Europe Day, which is marked on May 9.
