The authorities in Romania and the UK responded to the National Anticorruption Center’s requests to look for the former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova Vladimir Plahotniuc on their territories, including under the name of Vladislav Novak, which is his second identity in Moldova, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, NAC press officer Angela Starinski said Romania and the UK concentrated all their efforts on determining the whereabouts of citizen Vladimir Plahotniuc. When the Center received the response, the wanted person hadn’t been traced on the territories of the two states.

A statement issued by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo in the evening of January 13 says former Moldovan official Vladimir Plahotniuc was designated publicly due to involvement in significant corruption and is ineligible for visas to the United States. His wife Oxana Childescu, his son Timofei Plahotniuc and his minor child were also designated.

The former Democratic leader was put on the international and interstate wanted list at the end of last October.

Vladimir Plahotniuc left Moldova last June after the Democratic Party peacefully conceded the government to the coalition formed by the Party of Socialists and ACUM Bloc.
