The regular road passenger transportation services, regular special services and occasional services in international traffic, all the routes performed by road carriers from Romania to Italy and from Italy to Romania, are suspended as of March 10 until March 31. Such a decision was taken by the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations of Romania in a move to prevent infection with COVID-19, IPN reports.

The Embassy of Romania in Moldova said the decision provides that the road transport operators that provide routes through Italy are obliged to inform the passengers who will go aboard in Italy towards Romania that they will be in quarantine or will isolate themselves in Romania and will assume responsibility by filling out an own responsibility statement when getting on the bus.

Given the aforementioned measures, the Embassy calls on the international transport operators and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to take into account all the provisions of the decision when planning trips to and from Italy through Romania.

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration warns the Moldovan citizens who intend to transit Romania when coming from Italy, China, Iran and South Korea about the measures imposed by the Romanian authorities. As of March 9 this year, all the foreign citizens who intend to enter Romania through border crossing points, regardless of the used unit of transport, can enter only if they agree to stay in quarantine or self-isolation at home. The measures are valid until March 31 and can be extended depending on the epidemiological developments.

Only Romanian citizens can embark on airplanes coming to Romania from Italy, China, Iran and South Korea.

The Moldovans who face emergencies on the territory of Romania can seek consular assistance from the Consular Section of Moldova’s Embassy in Romania on +40 78 789 8050 or +40 21 410 98 27; e-mail: consulat.bucuresti@mfa.gov.md.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 109,695 cases of infection with the COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide by March 09, 2020. The death toll stands at 3,811.
