Romania reiterated its firm commitment to promote Moldova’s European course and help the country obtain a clear perspective of joining the EU. A joint statement by the foreign ministers of Moldova and Romania, disseminated by the Embassy of Romania in Moldova, says the results of the bilateral strategic partnership during five years of its establishment are very good. Moldova began to implement the Association Agreement with the EU, which lays the basis for the advanced political and economic integration into the European community, and increased funds started to become available for modernizing the economy, investing in infrastructure and public services, conserving the traditions and heritage for a better life for everyone, IPN reports, quoting the statement.
According to the statement, the Moldovan agricultural producers can sell fruit and vegetables to the EU in a period when their access to some of the traditional markets is blocked by politically motivated decisions. The new economic standards and regulations implemented in Moldova will help attract investments, create workplaces and strengthen the prosperity of the whole society. During a year, the Moldovan citizens have travelled visa-free to the EU. Only Moldova benefits from such a visa regime with the EU among the EaP states. The inauguration of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline on August 27, 2014 is an additional proof of the fruitful bilateral cooperation and a step towards bringing Moldova closer to the EU, for the benefit of the people from both banks of the Prut River.
All these results were achieved owing to the joint commitment of Chisinau and Bucharest, the concerted effort of experts from both of the states, the support of the people of Moldova. These made Moldova a leader within the Eastern Partnership. The road to the EU includes such essential stages as the deepening of democratic reforms, guaranteeing of the fundamental freedoms, strengthening of the rule of law, building of independent and functional justice, modernization of the state institutions, building of a competitive, equitable and transparent environment that would reward work and innovation, reads the statement.
