About €100,000 is to be invested in increasing the institutional capacities of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) of Moldova within a project financed with Official Development Assistance – a financial and expertise transfer instrument of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. A memorandum to this effect was signed by Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca and ANSA director general Iurie Carp in Chisinau on July 23, IPN reports.
“We aim to increase the administrative and operative capacity of the National Food Safety Agency in order to develop an efficient system for monitoring and reporting animal diseases. The development of such a system in accordance with the European standards and requirements represents a first step towards conquering new markets for exporting live animals and products of animal origin from Moldova,” said the ambassador.
Marius Lazurca noted that the project’s objective is a direct and simple one, namely to help the Moldovan producers to increase the exports of live animals and products of animal origin from Moldova to the EU, which is actually the most important market for Moldova. “Romania, through the National Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, will assist the competent Moldovan authorities in determining the efficiency of vaccination in animals, acquiring lab reactive, training personnel, etc.” stated the diplomat.
He added that Romania will continue to support Moldova in the area of food safety and other fields. For his part, Iurie Carp thanked the Romanian side for the provided assistance.
