Over 18 million Romanian citizens are expected toady at the polls to decide whether to impeach President Basescu or not.
Voters will be able to cast their ballots from 8 am to 8 pm at about 17,500 polling stations, including 178 abroad. 20 million ballot papers were printed for this purpose.
Citizens taking part in the ballot will choose "yes" or "no" to the question written on the ballot paper: "Do you agree with the Romanian President's dismissal?"
Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova can take part in the referendum at one of the two polling stations working at the Embassy of Romania, located in Chisinau, on Bucuresti Street, 61/1, and at the Consular Section of the embassy, situated on Valicu Parcalab Street, 39.
The referendum will be observed by approximately 300 internal poll-watchers, on behalf of 23 organisations from Romania, as well as by 50 representatives of certain European and international institutions and embassies.
Romania's Constitutional Court decided the head of state can be dismissed by 50 percent plus one vote of ballots cast in a referendum. Thus, generally speaking, the president can be dismissed with a simple majority of voters attending the polls.
