Romania must be an example by which Moldova could orient itself, said experts invited to the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Analyst Aurelian Lavric considers the Moldovan-Romanian relations leave much to be desired. “Romania is our only neighbor in the European Union. The relations with Romania represent the litmus test that can show the progress made by Moldova on the path of European integration. So far the Moldovan-Romanian relations have not been the desired ones. We do not have connection to Romania’s energy networks and gas pipelines and would like Romanian young people to come to study in our country, etc.” he stated.

Ion Dron, head of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, said that Romania will continue to have a say in the case of Moldova. “The Romanian authorities transmitted a clear signal to the Moldovan political class – to do reforms. The Romanian state has great management capacities. Until recently, the Romanian authorities hadn’t been heard, but they will be heard now and will have a say in the case of the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.

Politologist Ion Tabarta said he is less optimistic about the prospects of the Moldovan-Romanian relations. “The visit by President Timofti to Bucharest will not change things a lot. President Iohannis has a different character. Those from Bucharest are not so naïve to believe in the current political class of Moldova,” he noted.
