Romania has become the main trade partner of Moldova and brought the largest foreign investments, stated Romanian Senate President Nicolae Ciucă during the Siret-Prut-Nistru Euroregion Forum, which took place in Iasi on May 10. The official expressed his belief that strengthening the partnership with Romania will increase the resilience of the Republic of Moldova, Infoprut reported.
“If we think about the economic relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, ten years ago, economic exchanges were worth one billion euros. Today we are talking about three billion euros. Practically, they tripled in a decade. Romania has become the most important investor in the Republic of Moldova. We have investments of over 400 million euros and, at the same time, Romania has become the main commercial partner, with Moldovan exports being mainly directed to Romania”, emphasized the official.
He stated that all the support activities offered by Romania to the Republic of Moldova are “natural and absolutely obvious”.
“Let me assure you that they will continue”, said Nicolae Ciucă. “Today we are talking about how we can better support the Republic of Moldova in the European process. There are activities that took place in a very short period of time and that were beneficial for the decisions to be taken”, emphasized Nicolae Ciucă.
The President of the Romanian Senate was accompanied to Iaşi by European Commissioner Adina Vălean and MEP Rareş Bogdan.
