Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu ensured Moldovan Premier, Vasile Tarlev, that Romania would help Moldova “to get closer to European Union". During the meeting, held on the 6th of April in Bucharest, Mr Popescu-Tariceanu highlighted that Moldova can count on consistent support from Romania, as an advocate, as well as on its experience related with EU accession process. A communiqué on the site of Romanian government mentions that prime ministers agreed on joint support of two projects in the field of energy infrastructure: one regarding interconnection of electric power delivery networks and the other regarding the interconnection of gas pipelines. "We want to implement these projects in such a way that Moldova gets the possibility of some alternative solutions of electric power and gas supplies," Romanian Prime Minister noted. The third project stipulates modernization of the railways of Moldova, at the border with Romania to Tighina, and its adjustment to the European rail gauge standards. The head of the executive of Bucharest underlined as well that he would address intercessions to promote Moldovan goods, especially wines, in order to get access to the European market. In the same context, Prime Minister Tariceanu pointed the support which Romania provided to Moldova for starting negotiations of implementing the Central European Free Trade Agreement. "Due to our intercessions and the support provided by EU and the Stability Pact we managed to bring at the summit not only the states of Western Balkans, as previously foreseen, but also our sister, neighbor, friend country Moldova", Romanian prime minister noted. The discussion of both prime minister took place during South-eastern Europe Prime Ministers Summit of Bucharest, dedicated to simultaneous CEFTA extending and amendment.
