The collective support offered to the Republic of Moldova is needed to further ensure the prosperity and the European future of the county. In fact, it is an investment in the citizens of Moldova, who share the same European values, secretary general of the Government of Romania Mircea Abrudean stated in the fourth Moldova Support Platform Summit that is taking place in Chisinau. “We remain aware of the current challenges, but we seek to have a more strategic partnership with Moldova so as to support the key priorities, such as the reform process and the advancing on the path of European integration,” said Mircea Abrudean, being quoted by IPN.

The Romanian official noted that the Moldova Support Platform was launched when Russia started its military aggression against Ukraine and the economic and strategic consequences for Moldova became clear. “No one was ready for a war in Europe and this event distorted the economic activity all over the continent. The Republic of Moldova is further exposed to the consequences of this war. The economy hasn’t recovered yet. There are many difficulties in the transport, transit sectors. The market is volatile. The prices grow, etc.” stated Mircea Abrudean.

According to him, the pressure and the hybrid war against Moldova continue. However, in this difficult context, Moldova managed during a short period to time to take impressive steps to increase its resilience, to discover alternatives to the gas supplied by Gazprom and worked without stopping to enhance its energy efficiency and to connect to the European market through Romania. It also continued the fight against corruption, with more high-profile cases and with measures to clean the justice system. Important steps were taken to remedy systemic weaknesses, such as disinformation.

The Romanian official said that these reforms form part of the European integration of Moldova. Romania supported Moldova on its path to gain energy independence and the possibility of creating more instruments for promoting trade and investments in Moldova is being considered. No steps backward can be taken. Crucial elections follow in Moldova and these come with specific pressure that can bring instability. In such conditions, the collective support offered to Moldova is needed to further ensure the prosperity and the European future of the county. The Moldova Support Platform will adjust the collective effort made for Moldova’s benefit.
